Camcora — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Camcora (the “App”) handles your information. Camcora is an on-device iOS camcorder app that records photos and videos with retro video effects, operated by Tobias Zehndbauer (see the Impressum for full provider details). By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

Summary

• Your recordings stay on your device. All video and audio processing happens locally. Recordings are never uploaded to our servers — we don't operate any.
• No account is required to use the App, and we do not collect data that identifies you personally.
• Camcora collects limited, anonymous usage statistics to improve the App. This is optional and can be turned off in the App’s settings.
• Purchases are handled by the Apple App Store and by RevenueCat, which process limited transaction data under their own privacy policies.
• If you actively share a clip to TikTok or Instagram, the clip is handed over to that app and is then subject to its terms.

Recordings, photos, and audio

All video recording, audio recording, and effect processing is performed locally on your device. Clips and photos you create or import in Camcora are not transmitted to us or to any third party by the App itself, and are not stored on any server we control. Recordings are kept in the App's local "Tape Library" on your device until you delete them or delete the App.

Recordings are only saved to your device photo library or shared when you choose to do so. Camcora does not maintain a cloud gallery. Please note that the retro effects (including the on-screen date/time display and, in the free version, a watermark) are permanently rendered into your recordings.

Sharing to TikTok and Instagram

Camcora offers optional sharing shortcuts. These only run when you actively tap the corresponding share option:

• Instagram (Stories/Reels): the exported clip is handed to the Instagram app on your device via Apple's pasteboard mechanism (with a short expiry) together with our app identifier. From that point, Instagram processes the clip under Meta's privacy policy.
• TikTok: the exported clip is saved to your photo library and handed to the TikTok app via TikTok's official sharing interface (TikTok OpenSDK) together with our app identifier. From that point, TikTok processes the clip under TikTok's privacy policy. This handover only happens when you actively choose to share — there is no automatic sharing — and the TikTok SDK is only invoked when you use this share option.

Camcora does not receive any data back from these platforms about your account or your posts, and has no access to your TikTok or Instagram account.

Information we do not collect

Camcora does not require you to create an account and does not itself collect personal information such as your name, email address, or contacts. Camcora contains no third-party analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs; the limited anonymous usage statistics we collect ourselves are described under “Anonymous usage statistics” below. The third-party components integrated are RevenueCat (purchases, described below) and the TikTok OpenSDK (sharing, described above).

Anonymous usage statistics

To understand which features are used and whether errors occur, Camcora collects limited, anonymous usage statistics that help us improve the App. You can turn this off at any time (see “Your choice” below).

When it is enabled, the only information sent is:

• an event name from a fixed, predefined list (for example, “video exported”);
• where applicable, a single numeric value for that event (for example, a video length in seconds);
• the App version and the major iOS version;
• a broad device category;
• your language setting (language code only);
• how long ago the App was installed, as a coarse category.

On our side, the country and the calendar day are added to each event.

The following are explicitly not collected: no names, no device or installation identifiers, no stored IP addresses, no precise timestamps, no video content or file names, and no advertising identifiers. Individual events cannot be linked to one another or to any person.

These statistics are processed on our own infrastructure, with Cloudflare acting as a technical service provider (processor) and storage in a Cloudflare database. We do not use any third-party analytics services, and we do not share this data with anyone.

Your choice. Sending anonymous statistics is optional. You can disable it at any time in the App under Settings → “Send anonymous statistics”.

Purchases and subscriptions

Camcora offers paid options: a one-time lifetime purchase and a monthly subscription. Purchases are processed through the Apple App Store and managed with the help of RevenueCat, a purchase-management service.

To manage your entitlements (i.e. to know which purchase you own), RevenueCat receives a randomly generated, anonymous app user ID together with purchase and receipt data from the App Store. No recordings, photos, or audio are ever sent to RevenueCat. RevenueCat does not receive information that directly identifies you by name.

Apple processes the payment and the transaction data associated with your Apple ID under Apple's standard App Store practices.

These third parties process data under their own privacy policies:

Permissions the App may request

• Camera — to record video and photos. Used only while you are using the App.
• Microphone — to record audio for your clips (with the retro audio effect).
• Photo Library — to save your recordings, to import existing videos or photos for processing, and (technically required) to hand clips to TikTok when you use the TikTok share option.

You can grant or revoke each permission at any time in the iOS Settings app.

This website

This website is a static site without cookies, analytics, or tracking. It is served via a hosting/CDN provider (Cloudflare), which may process technical connection data (such as IP addresses) in server logs for security and delivery purposes.

Data retention

Because we do not collect personal data on our own servers, we do not retain personal data about you. Recordings remain on your device under your control. Purchase and entitlement data held by Apple and RevenueCat is retained according to their respective policies.

Children's privacy

Camcora is intended for a general audience. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to object to certain processing. Because Camcora does not itself hold personal data about you, such requests will in most cases concern data held by Apple, RevenueCat, TikTok, or Meta and should be directed to them. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
